

Con la construcción del Muro, quedó un gran solar en tierra de nadie y tras la caída de este fue sometida a una importante reforma que le dio una nueva fisonomía, manteniéndose únicamente algún resto del muro con paneles explicativos. Quedó totalmente destruida por los bombardeos al final de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, y en el eje de la división de la ciudad entre los sectores soviético y norteamericano.

En 1924 se instala aquí el primer semáforo de Europa siendo considerada la plaza más transitada del continente. A mediados del XIX Postdamer Platz se convierte en el corazón de la ciudad, centro de la actividad de la misma, y se llena de comercios, cafés y hoteles. En1823 se ordenan ambas plazas y se crea la Puerta de Potsdam, y en 1838 se crea en el una primera estación de tren. La Potsdamer Platz surge en 1685 como lugar de mercado exterior a la ciudad, junto al camino de Potsdam, al sur de Berlín, en las proximidades de Leipziger Platz, dentro de la ciudad. Su ejecución convirtió Potsdamer Platz en el más grande campo de construcción de Europa. Cuenta así con edificios proyectados por Richard Rogers, Rafael Moneo y Arata Isozaki entre otras.

La actual Potsdamer Platz es el resultado de la a gigantesca renovación urbana efectuada de la mano del reconocido arquitecto italiano Renzo Piano, con la intervención de notables estudios de arquitectura de todo el mundo. The building was designed by Yeoville Thomason. The Museum and Art Gallery occupied an extended part of the Council House above the new offices of the municipal Gas Department (which in effect subsidised the venture thus circumventing the Public Libraries Act 1850 which limited the use of public funds on the arts). A £10,000 (£840,000 in 2010) gift by Sir Richard and George Tangye started a new drive for an art gallery and, in 1885, following other donations and £40,000 from the council, the Prince of Wales officially opened the new gallery.

Jesse Collings, Mayor of Birmingham 1878–79, was responsible for free libraries in Birmingham and was the original proponent of the Birmingham Art Gallery. In 1829, the Birmingham Society of Artists created a private exhibition building in New Street, Birmingham and in 1864, the first public exhibition room, was opened when the Society. Waterhall (the old gas department) has its own entrance on Edmund Street. The Extension Block has entrances via the Gas Hall (Edmund Street) and Great Charles Street. The main entrance is located in Chamberlain Square below the clock tower known locally as “Big Brum”. Entrance to the Museum and Art Gallery is free, but some major exhibitions in the Gas Hall incur an entrance fee. It is run by Birmingham Museums Trust, the largest independent museums trust in the United Kingdom, which also runs eight other museums around the city. The Museum has a collection of international importance covering fine art, ceramics, metalwork, jewellery, archaeology, ethnography, local history and industrial history. The Grade II* Listed Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, Birmingham, West Midlands. These chimneys have been kept as heritage items and are a dominating feature of this area. This corner, where King Street, Newtown turns into the Princes Highway, features the remains of the chimneys and brick kilns from the old brickworks site. Sydney Park features public sculpture including Michael Snape's The Trail 1990 which is displayed on top of the hill in the north-western corner of the park, the corner opposite to St Peters railway station. Part of the park and its trees are slated to be removed due to the Westconnex transport project. The former brickworks area of the park is listed on the City of Sydney local government heritage list. The park comprises large open recreation spaces with distinctive hills that provide 360 degree views over Sydney, a children's playground, wetlands, a sports oval (Alan Davidson Oval), a children's bicycle track, sculptures, a heritage area featuring the remains of the brickworks that formerly occupied part of the site, and the AIDS Memorial Grove.
